Kathryn Burnett is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright, lecturer and development consultant who has worked primarily in film and television for over 18 years. She currently has several feature films projects in development and runs her own creativity and writing workshops which she designed in 2010.
In 2011 she produced her player "Mike & Virginia" (co-writer Nick Ward) in the International Comedy Festival. It was subsequently produced in 2013 by Circa Theatre (Wellington).
She has significant television writing credits and has developed numerous television series for New Zealand's major production companies. In addition she has worked as Script Consultant / Story Editor on - Love Birds, Dean Spanely, The Ferryman and award-winning short Poppy among others.
Kathryn was the screenwriting tutor at South Seas Film & Television School between 2005-2007. She is a regular Script Assessor for NZ On Air and South Pacific Pictures in addition to individual writers and producers.
In 2008/09 she co-created and developed the TVNZ drama "The Cult".
In 2007 she was a Semi-Finalist in the Big Break International Screenwriting Competition for her screenplay Cravenmoor.
In 2003, she received a British Council Screenwriting Scholarship, which saw her spending 2 months with BOX TV's development team in London.
From 1997 to 2000 Kathryn was the Executive Director of the New Zealand Writers Guild.
During this time she was a Qantas Media award-winning columnist for She and More magazine then regular columnist for Grace magazine, (wrote pieces for Noth and South, and Canadian Screenwriter) and published a book of humourous essays - Has Johnny Come Lately? through HarperCollins.
Kathryn also teaches popular Screenwriting Workshops.
